Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit has commenced and is due to be completed 2017, and plans to extend the neonatal unit are underway.

We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Respiratory Physiologist who will be working in all aspects of the service.

 

The Respiratory Department is part of a multi-discipline Clinical Measurement Unit in a busy community/acute integrated District General Hospital.  The department is situated in a purpose-built unit providing a wide range of services namely, Full PFTs, Oxygen assessments including arterial blood gases, Bronchial challenge, Exercise testing (simple and complex), Mouth pressures, Sleep studies both oximetry and multi-channel to including analysis & reporting, Initialising and optimising CPAP therapy

 

Applicants for the Band 6 post must have BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and requires a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience in all DGH Respiratory procedures, current ARTP National assessment and ILS. Must be RCCP registered. Opportunities are available to further develop your skills. Band 6 applicants will be expected to provide an evidence portfolio to demonstrate their specialist knowledge base.


Band 5 post holder will be expected to successfully complete a portfolio for progression to a Band 6 post as per Annex T (AFC).


If no suitable candidates are forthcoming for a Band 6/5 post a trainee post will be considered for a Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) undergraduate.

 

 

The department has offered support for a number of years to the regional training scheme and are actively involved in delivering the degree programmes at Wolverhampton University and STP programmes at Newcastle/Manchester University.
